Artistul și producătorul american, a cărui numire a fost anunțată în februarie, a închis podul Pont Neuf din Paris, marți, unde spectacolul a avut loc la apus, cu o orchestră completă, un cor gospel și peste 70 de look-uri îmbrăcate de câteva fețe cunoscute, printre care designerul Stefano Pilati și Pusha T și No Malice din duo-ul hip-hop Clipse.

Fețele celebre nu s-au oprit aici – prietenii celebri ai lui Williams l-au încurajat din primul rând. Printre aceștia s-au numărat Rihanna, cel mai recent model de campanie al mărcii și A$AP Rocky care s-a furișat târziu, Jay-Z care a cântat la afterparty, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Jared Leto, Lenny Kravitz care a venit cu Naomi Campbell și ambasadorul mărcii, Zendaya, cu fostul stilistul Law Roach lângă ea.

Când Williams a fost numit succesorul regretatului Virgil Abloh, s-au aprins unele dezbateri asupra validității numirii sale și a traiectoriei neobișnuite.

Dar, deși nu este un designer de modă format oficial, câștigătorul a 13 premii Grammy a modelat cultura - de la muzică și modă, de peste două decenii. Aceasta nu este prima șansă a lui Williams la design: în 2003, a colaborat cu Marc Jacobs (pe atunci la conducerea Louis Vuitton) și designerul japonez Nigo la ochelari de soare care au devenit unul dintre cei mai vânduți ai mărcii. Au urmat și alte colaborări: Moncler, Moynat și parteneriate de lungă durată cu Adidas și Chanel, inclusiv o colecție capsulă pe care a creat-o împreună cu regretatul director de creație al Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld.

La fel ca Virgil Abloh, Pharell redefinește spiritul și înțelege cum să promoveze o idee către mase. În calitate de director de creație, viziunea sa pentru Louis Vuitton va merge dincolo de crearea de colecții, dar și de a produce prezentări de modă, campanii și alt conținut pentru a menține casa de modă proaspătă și animată.

Designul tablei de șah, care datează din 1889, a fost reimaginat prin prisma lui Williams. O iterație pixelată, numită „Damoflage”, a apărut pe paltoane care măturau podeaua, costume asortate, o jachetă fără guler, genți și rucsacuri Speedy supradimensionați. O formă mai exagerată a modelului original Damier a fost prezentată și pe jachetele din denim matlasate, trenciuri, jachete moto din piele cu pantaloni evazați și tricouri din piele și cămăși de rugby în nuanțe de galben strălucitor, bleumarin intens și vișiniu. A fost văzută și pe o serie de accesorii, inclusiv beanies, genți și șepci de baseball.
