Istoria genții baguette începe în 1997, când Fendi o creează. Brandul Fendi și serialul „Sex and the City” s-au ajutat reciproc – casa de modă italiană a fost prima care și-a oferit produsele cu împrumut, însă văzând acest lucru, multe alte case de modă i-au călcat pe urme, cimentând imaginea de style icons a personajelor.
